Due to the Covid-19 virus situation and with immediate effect the hall is closed to all hires and will remain so until we are advised by the authorities it is safe to re-open.

This means that the decision to hold a comprehensive event on the 8th May to celebrate VE75 Day has also been cancelled, however it is hoped that we can re-schedule this to August and combine with VJ Day celebrations.

16 September 2018.Village Hall Toilet Refurbished
Another much needed improvment has just been completed in the hall. For a number of years the male toilets have sufferent from damp and condensation with the paint peeling and other undesirable effects, the solution to which of course was much more than re-painting. The Hall Management Committee decided to have the toilets completely stripped back to the bare walls, lined with thermally insulated plasterboards and replastered, loft insulation, an extraction fan, a new washbasin and WC, fully re-plumbed and finally completely re-painted.

After finding a suitable contractor who could handle all the the multi-trades work it took two weeks to complete the task. Thanks to the dedication and attention to detail from the contractor, the visual result was even better than expected and should resolve this long standing issue.

27 May 2018.Dance Group Fundraiser
Over the past few months many of the groups that use the hall have held fundraisers or made donations to the village hall roof repair fund, without which we would not have been able to proceed with the current repairs on the North section of the roof. The management committee are extremely grateful to these groups for their donations and for their regular hires and continued support.

On Saturday Shiv’s Newliners, who have been hiring the hall since 2013, held a 12 hour dance marathon which so far has raised £570 and still counting. This money starts the fundraising for the South section of the roof and we would like to thank everyone who took part in this event – it was amazing.

21 May 2018.Village Hall Roof Repairs
Phase one of the the much needed roof repairs started this week, the contractors will strip the north roof and fit new wood where required, new leadwork where required, a layer of Proctor Roofshield and then re-slate. Part of the cost for this work was supported by the Proctor Group's "Roofshield to the Rescue" campaign and we are extremly grateful for their support. This product was ideal for the renovation of the roofspace as it not only provides a secondary barrier to rain, wind and snow, it has a low vapour resistance and will eliminate interstitial condensation in the roofspace.

Due to the high cost of this work only the north roof and valleys will be stripped and repaired. The south roof will only have temporary repairs carried out at this stage. Once we complete another round of fundraising we will then hopefully be able to go through the same process with the south roof.

19 June 2017.Another Heating Upgrade
As part of the ongoing improvements planned for the hall, the heating system has now undergone it's second stage of upgrade. All of the old radiators have been replaced with new larger high efficiency units.

The overall change in numbers is from a 17kW output capacity we have taken this up to 25kW output capacity, this will decrease the time taken to heat up from switch on and allow a higher temperature to be reached quickly. As before the heating cycles are controlled by pre-set timing to suit our hires and the room temperature controlled by a central room thermostat.

A young couple chose Ecclesmachan as the venue for both their wedding ceremony and the reception on Friday 15th January. 1 August 2015.Village Hall Car Parking
We are pleased to advise that another project from the Community wish list has been completed and car parking facilities at the Hall are now finally in place. The area should provide sufficient parking for most functions with vehicles being stack parked. The design of the new car park also raised the ground level reducing the inclines to remove the central entrance dip and provide direct access to the hall without the steps at the door.

12 December 2013.Hall Upgrades - Secondary Glazing
We are pleased to advise that the Village Hall internal secondary glazing project has been completed. This will help reduce our energy costs, carbon footprint and internal condensation; it will also increase the comfort of guests using the hall.

Working closely with a local contractor we chose clear toughened/laminated glass for the secondary units, the units have been designed and installed in such a way that they are discrete and unobtrusive, minimising disturbance to the original character of the building.

4 December 2012.Village Hall Renovation Update
A contractor recently completed work on sanding and varnish coating the wooden floors in the hall, we have installed replacement and additional door mats in an effort to keep dirt and particularly grit out of the Hall.

The terms and conditions of hire have been changed slightly, explaining that we cannot allow Steel Tipped Stiletto Heels, Golf Shoes, Hob Nailed Boots or Football Studs etc. and requesting that, if you are moving chairs or tables around, they are lifted into place and not dragged.

We also request that ALL spillage’s, even of water, are mopped up immediately to avoid damaging the floor surface. The floor has also been treated with a sealing solution and will be maintained with a floor maintenance solution, this means that traditional floor cleaning detergents (e.g. flash etc.) can no longer be used. Therefore in the event of spills, the floor surface should only be wiped clean with a cloth or sponge slightly dampened with water.

We trust you are pleased with the continuing process of improvements in the hall and hope this makes your visits more comfortable and enjoyable.

Below you will find some thumbnail pictures recording the work in progress as it transformed into completion, if you click on the thumbnail picture a new window will open and a larger image will load into it.
